to
take a few in discretions get out
their opinions
        mine's

sure I'm
trying to be right

learning slow-

how to be on my own.

Alligator                    3-25-05

Like an alligator
    I have not quite
survived the gulf coast swamp,
        my scaly skin
        damp, peeling.

the feel of the West Coast sun
        beating down in March
        outside endearing me
        to a better life
after being shut down from love

        I look back
        at the humid in the
        arid air of California
        beaches & oceans
        on each shore,

        the dilapidated house,
        ny furious brother's warm breath
        blasted toward me,
        the dogwood trees
        our dubious shade
in the near one-hundred degree heat & humidity,
my walking away to his sad frown,

        my needing yet another
        dryer new day..
